North Ridge Pumps are pleased to announce a new design a Plunger Pump engineered for use de-ionised water.

De-ionised water is used in a range of applications from Electronic and semiconductor manufacturing, to pharmaceutical care products, humidification and automotive detailing.

Also known as ultra-pure, demineralised, and purified water, it can prove difficult to pump due to its low lubricity meaning pump seals can often fail prematurely due to lack of lubrication, despite being immersed in liquid. As well as being corrosive to certain metals such as carbon steel, and copper it is well known for causing issues in demanding pump applications.

Traditionally, pumps handling demineralised water have required a seal flush to move liquid between the high and low pressure seals, helping to prolong service life. However, relying on a seal flush introduces a risk of cross-contamination if seals aren’t inspected regularly, while also adding unnecessary complexity to pump installations.

Built to achieve a flow up to 170L/min and pressures up to 152 bar, the new XD Series of CAT plunger pumps are designed for use with demineralised water, extending service of both packings, Seals and plungers. Seals have been redesigned to be lubricated from within the casing, reducing wear and eliminating the need for freshwater flushing.

If you have an application requiring the pumping of deionised water for fogging, misting, datacentre climate control or dust suppression the XD Series of Plunger Pumps are available from North Ridge Pumps at: https://www.northridgepumps.com/b_45_cat-pumps
