REACH 

Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals is the legislation controlling chemicals into the EU and came into force in June 2007. Under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, the EU REACH Regulation was brought into UK law on 1 January 2021 and is known as UK REACH. 

REACH is a substance based regulation with registrations being submitted, from 2010 to 2018, by manufacturers and importers in the EU where more than one tonne per year is sold.

It places responsibility on industry to manage the risks chemicals pose to health and the environment and to provide safety information to users.

Downstream users need to ensure they implement this safe use information which is communicated in the Exposure Scenarios, annexed to the Safety Data Sheet.

It has repercussions for all businesses because No Registration means No Market.

•  BRCGS – Norkem Ltd, Norkem Australia, Norkem Quimica SL, Norkem Srl and Norkem BV all hold BRCGS Agents and Brokers certification. The BRCGS standard was the first to be recognised as meeting the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmark and ensures the highest levels of competence in all key areas of food safety.

  

•  CBA – Norkem is a member of the Chemical Business Association (CBA) in the United Kingdom.

•  SEDEX – Norkem Limited is part of the Global Sedex initiative joining as a Supplier (B) Member in 2018. Via its online platform Sedex allows companies to share data and measure compliance against the following: Labour standards, Health and safety, The environment and Business ethics.
