Recycling Waste Solvents:
A need for the industry and the environment
The treatment and recycling of organic solvents is an important topic in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry as large amounts of solvents are generated annually. In most cases, solvents require strict hazardous waste management. High-quality solvents are valuable and in most cases, is suited for material recycling applications. Low-quality solvents on the other hand have no added value as material but can be recovered to use as an alternative fuel for thermal treatment so these are suited for energy recovery application.
Recycling and recovering solvents have large ecological benefits. So for both types of solvents, high and low quality ones, Indaver has the right solution and installations.

With Indaver Solvents and its different technologies such as pervaporation, fractionation, and distillation, Indaver provides large-scale solutions for solvent recycling.
Indaver Solvents can rely on several own recycling facilities across Europe which provide a recycling alternative for solvent waste that today is being used and/or exported for thermal treatment. With Indaver Solvents, we are investing signifcantly to raise the efficiency, capacity and sustainability of the recycling plants in Middlewich (UK) and Antwerp (BE) to an even higher level. The optimizations are focused on performance, quality and safety so we can manage, handle and process more complex flows.

Indaver Solvents is well aware that the development of dedicated solvent recycling facilities on the customer’s site can be justifiable depending on the volume and value of the recoverable solvent(s).
On-site facilities have several advantages on top of the benefits of solvent recycling in general such as:

improved safety as no more connecting & disconnecting trucks to tank farms

Our solvent recovery installations
Low-quality solvents that are not fit for solvent recycling, can be pre-treated to be used as a substitute fuel in cement kilns. These solvent recovery facilities (SRF) are located in Dublin (IRE) and Terneuzen (NL).

Your liquid catalyst waste contains metals worth recovering
When precious metals dissolve into your process liquids, most recovery routes fall short. Indaver Precious Metals was built specifically for this challenge — delivering end‑to‑end recovery of palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, platinum and iridium from complex liquid waste through a fully integrated closed‑loop, handling every step for you with unmatched efficiency and full transparency.
Liquid CO₂
Bio Power Alphen
Alphen aan den Rijn (in the Netherlands) is home to our cutting-edge bio-digestor plant ‘Bio Power Alphen’. We digest wet vegetable fruit and garden waste, selectively collected by municipalities, into biogas. Next we convert the biogas into green gas and liquid CO2. The liquid CO2 is used in numerous industrial applications. This capture and reuse of CO2 is an innovative example of how we are contributing to the European climate objective of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Compost and Biomass
Bio Organic Waste
Indaver processes bio-organic waste, such as green and VGF waste (vegetable, fruit and garden waste) into high-quality compost and biomass in the Netherlands. With good quality compost, we give the soil back its natural nutrients. From the woody fraction of green waste, we produce biomass in the form of woodchips, which serve as a sustainable fuel or as ground cover. In this way, we close the cycle.
Hydrochloric Acid
HCL
Hydrochloric acid is a product mainly used by the chemical, petrochemical, metallurgical and food-processing industries. It is therefore a much-wanted primary material. Indaver has developed a sustainable recycling solution for its industrial customers providing a circular economy solution for hydrochloric or chlorinated waste that is both safe and environmentally responsible.
Green Gas
Bio Power Alphen
Alphen aan den Rijn (in the Netherlands) is home to our cutting-edge bio-digestor plant ‘Bio Power Alphen’. We digest wet vegetable fruit and garden waste, selectively collected by municipalities, into biogas. Next, we convert the biogas into premier-quality green gas. We feed this info the grid where it replaces natural gas form fossil fuels.
Bottom Ash Granulates
From waste to building material
Indaver processes approximately 90.000 tonnes of bottom ash from waste incineration plants every year. This results in 30.000 tonnes of high-quality granules, which are given a second life as a circular building material or useful application.
These granulates are successfully used as an alternative to natural gravel in concrete clinkers and stacking blocks (legio blocks). In this way, Indaver contributes to a more sustainable construction industry by converting waste into valuable raw materials.
