PRECIPITATED CALCIUM CARBONATE FOR THE MATERIAL SCIENCE MARKET APPLICATIONS
Brenntag UK & Ireland is now able to supply a full range of Precipitated Calcium Carbonates (PCC) grades for use in the Sealant, Coatings, Inks, Plastics, Paper & Rubber sectors.

We are now distributing the PCC range of Specialty Minerals products with the trade names Calofort® and Calopake®.

We can offer both coated and uncoated variations, characterized by their high chemical purity, controlled particle shape, and particle size distribution.

SEALANTS MARKET:
PCCs are used as resin extenders which can help reduce the overall cost of the finished product.

They can also be used for rheology control as they can improve the anti-settling and anti-sagging properties of sealants.

Moreover, these products can be used to increase hardness and tensile strength, improve opacity and whiteness and reduce plasticizer mobility.

COATINGS MARKET:
PCCs can be used for exceptional brightness, titanium dioxide extension and to improve film integrity.

Coated grades impart hydrophobicity and increase dispersibility and compatibility in solvent-based or 100% solids coatings.

INK MARKET:
PCCs can enhance printability, low misting behaviour and good dispersibility.

These grades can be used as a rheology additive (viscosity control).

They have good optical properties, high transparency and gloss and increased pigment efficiency.

Incorporation of PCCs can improve film properties such as higher scrub and abrasion resistance.

PLASTICS INDUSTRY:
PCCs can improve impact resistance, heat deflection temperature, melt strength.

They can be used to reduce the resin content in order to produce a less expensive formulation.

They can help increase production rates and improve dimensional stability.

PAPER & BOARD INDUSTRY:
PCCs are used to add brightness and opacity and also to improve printability.

They can potentially replace titanium dioxide, increase sheet smoothness and improve the coated sheet bulk and stiffness.

RUBBER INDUSTRY:
PCCs can aid reinforcement and improve tear strength compared to ground calcium carbonate.

SPECIFIC PRODUCT INFORMATION:
COATED GRADES:
Not for use in water based products. Calofort® grades S, SM, SV are coated, to improve dispersion into resin systems, polymer mixes and to increase water resistance.

CALOFORT® S
Ultrafine size – used in Rubber & Polymer modification (improves impact strength of PVC, reinforces rubber), also used as an extender in printing inks, solvented paints & primers to prevent settling.

CALOFORT® SM & SV
Ultrafine size – used widely in Sealants, PVC Plastisols, plastics, flexographic inks. See the selection chart below.

UNCOATED GRADES:
CALOFORT® U
Ultrafine size – used in the surface coatings & sealants market.

CALOPAKE® F
Fine size (2 micron) – Paper making, water based paints & flexographic inks.
